Our Founder Father “Dr. K. M. Munshi”

Born on December 30, 1887, Dr.Kanhaiyalal Maneklal Munshi, was a “versatile personality”, “a philosopher in action”, “a man of great ideas and great courage” and “multi-faceted genius”. A luminary in India's socio-political landscape he was a multifaceted figure whose versatility is seen in his roles as a lawyer, creative writer, constitution maker, freedom fighter, administrator, organization builder and a champion of Indian culture.

This year we celebrate the 136th birth anniversary of Dr. K. M. Munshi, the founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and also enter the 85th year of this great institution that was founded on 7th November, 1938 with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr. Munshi looked upon Bhavan as an ‘Adventure in Faith’, faith in India’s past, present & future.

Munshi's ideals centered on the harmonious integration of modernity with traditional Indian values are reflected at the institution. As the founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in 1938, he aimed to revive and propagate India's cultural heritage. Bhavan became a manifestation of his vision, symbolizing cultural renaissance and holistic education. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is a Somnath of Learning. Of this Somnath,  Kulapati Munshi was the sthapathi (sculptor architect). For Munshi, Bhavan wasn't just an institution; it embodied his fervent belief in preserving and perpetuating India's timeless cultural ethos.

Today, the Bhavan is ceaselessly striving to carry forward India’s ageless message of faith, self-discipline and dedication; Shraddha, Samyamaand Samarpana. Its ideal is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” - The world is one family. Its motto is “Aano bhadraah kratvo yantuvishwataha”. Let noble thoughts come to us from every side.
